'The Lost Bus' is written by Brad Ingelsby, the showrunner of HBO's 'Mare of Easttown.' The film is primarily adapted from Lizzie Johnson's 2021 book 'Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire,' which recounts the experiences, reports, and investigation results related to the 2018 California wildfires. The movie's main plot tells the story of bus driver Kevin McKay and elementary school teacher Mary Ludwig, who bravely led a full school bus of students to safety through the raging wildfires.

The production team behind 'The Lost Bus' includes Comet Pictures founded by Jamie Lee Curtis and Blumhouse Productions founded by Jason Blum, with Ingelsby also serving as an executive producer.
