The live-action "How to Train Your Dragon" has been rolling out in theaters worldwide since last Saturday, largely garnering positive reviews for its visual effects, art direction, and cast performances. Even Nico Parker, who portrays Astrid and faced pre-release backlash from some fans, has ultimately won over many viewers. However, Parker still has thoughts to share regarding the criticism she received about her appearance not matching the animated character's design.

In a recent interview with "The Times," Parker addressed the backlash directly. She stated that while some fans deeply love the animated original and desire a "100% faithful" live-action adaptation, she hopes they will still see the new film and find aspects to enjoy. However, Parker was unequivocal about her stance on critics of diversity: "But for those who hate diversity and inclusion, who hate change, I simply don't care. If I don't care about your opinion on most things in life, of course I won't care about your opinion on my hair. If I cared, I'd go crazy."
Parker also reflected on the lack of mixed-race and Black idols like herself in Hollywood during her formative years. She acknowledged, "For female characters, we still have a long way to go in terms of new characters, original themes, and female-led stories, but I think everything is changing, and I hope that one day I can contribute to this trend of change."
