Dwayne Johnson, long known for his roles in commercial action blockbusters, is set to collaborate with A24 this fall on the acting-focused biopic "The Smashing Machine." However, this is apparently not Johnson's only upcoming project with the indie studio. According to an exclusive report today from Deadline, Johnson and A24 are also developing another drama titled "Breakthrough," and a director has already been secured.

Deadline reports that "Breakthrough" is set in Southern California during the millennium era. The story follows a reclusive young man who becomes inspired by a charismatic religious leader. This leader's captivating charm, however, conceals his morally corrupt manipulations and inner darkness. Johnson is reportedly set to portray this "guru" in a supporting role, while the lead and other supporting characters are still being cast.
"Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky (pictured above) is currently in talks to helm the film. The screenplay was penned by rising star Zeke Goodman, who is primarily known for his acting work. A release date for the film has not yet been set.
