The highly anticipated action game "MindsEye," which officially launched on June 10, 2025, has been met with a disastrous reception. Plagued by poor performance, abnormal AI, frequent crashes, and severe bugs, its Steam rating quickly plummeted to "Mixed," triggering a wave of refund requests. The situation has drawn comparisons to the notoriously troubled launch of "Cyberpunk 2077." Some players even successfully obtained refunds from Sony, a company known for its strict refund policy.
Facing widespread criticism, developer Build A Rocket Boy issued a statement on their official Discord, expressing that they were "heartbroken." The studio confirmed that memory leaks were the primary cause of crashes, affecting approximately 10% of players. The development team worked overnight to address the errors and anticipated releasing a hotfix for PC as early as the next day, with console platforms to follow after Sony and Microsoft certification.
"Our priority is performance and stability, ensuring every player has a consistent, high-quality experience across all platforms. We will continue to roll out updates and respond to all player feedback as much as possible," Build A Rocket Boy stated.
Beyond technical issues, the game's marketing partnerships also faced disruption. Noted streamer CohhCarnage reported that he was scheduled to begin a sponsored "MindsEye" stream but was notified upon launching the game that the partner requested a last-minute cancellation. Another streamer, DarkViperAU, reportedly laughed so hard during his stream that he couldn't continue, leading to the stream being dubbed "laughing too hard to play."
Build A Rocket Boy stated that by the end of June, they plan to progressively improve game performance, AI behavior, fix animation errors, and rebalance difficulty modes. While there have been no reports of "MindsEye" being delisted yet, with only about 3,302 concurrent players on Steam, it remains to be seen if the situation can be turned around.
