Marvel's new series "Ironheart" is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 24, 2025, with its first three episodes. The show continues the storyline from "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," featuring genius inventor Riri Williams, played by Dominique Thorne, who will once again don her new tech and magic-infused Ironheart suit as she officially returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While "Ironheart" is a relatively self-contained story on a smaller scale, executive producer Ryan Coogler recently revealed in an interview with Deadline that certain elements of the series could have a significant impact on the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday" film. This impact is particularly relevant to the classic comic book villain Doctor Doom, who is renowned for his mastery of both technology and magic.
Coogler explained that while they initially didn't know the story would eventually lead to Doctor Doom and the Avengers, Doom is a character famous for combining technology and magic, and "Ironheart" serves as a precedent for that future direction. He also noted the interesting timing of the series' release, as AI and technological ethics are currently among society's most debated topics.
The plot follows Riri after she is expelled from MIT and loses her resources, returning to Chicago. She inadvertently becomes entangled in events connected to the mysterious character "The Hood," portrayed by Anthony Ramos. As Riri uses a brain-scanning device to repair her armor, she accidentally awakens an AI hologram of her best friend, embarking on a journey where technology and magic intensely intertwine.
Although it's not yet confirmed that Riri will directly confront Doctor Doom, it is widely anticipated that she will participate in "Avengers: Doomsday" and potentially "Avengers: Secret Wars." Additionally, Coogler briefly confirmed that "Black Panther 3" is currently in development.
