Following the massive success of the live-action "Lilo & Stitch," which grossed a staggering $910 million on a $100 million budget, Disney Studios has officially announced that a sequel is in the works. The confirmation, which was widely expected, came via a post on the studio's social media platforms early this morning.

A major reason for the first film's success was its faithful adaptation of the original animated movie, which avoided introducing divisive new changes. However, the sequel appears to be charting a new course. Shortly after the official announcement, film industry insider Daniel Richtman reported on his personal Patreon page that the second installment will be an original story. According to Richtman, the film will not adapt any of the animated sequels, spin-offs, or television series.

There is currently no word on whether Dean Fleischer Camp ("Marcel the Shell with Shoes On"), who directed the first film, will return to helm the sequel. However, the principal cast from the first movie is expected to reprise their roles.
