The popular die-cast toy series "METAL BUILD", released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, has announced its latest product commemorating the 30th anniversary of the "Evangelion" series, the "EVANGELION Unit-02 30th with the spear of Cassius", slated for release in May 2026.
The "METAL BUILD EVANGELION Unit-02", first unveiled in 2019, was designed and supervised by Mr. Ikuto Yamashita. Its styling significantly deviates from previous EVA versions, drawing inspiration from the concept of a "giant with steel muscles." It features exposed metal structures at the joints and incorporates various original mechanisms unique to the METAL BUILD series. Its physique closely resembles the human body, with numerous joints such as the elbows, hips, and knees crafted from alloy materials.
The entire body is meticulously painted and printed with rich colors to reproduce Unit-02's characteristic red and orange hues, along with lines and markings across its form. The areas around the joints are further enhanced with various metallic paint applications, giving the overall skeleton and musculature a mechanical texture composed of multiple metals. This transformation shifts its image from the "artificial human" of the original work to something closer to a "weapon."
The extensive array of weapon accessories includes a High-Vibration Particle Knife, a Recoilless Rifle, a Portable Battery, an Electromagnetic Rifle, Electromagnetic Rifle accessories, an Umbilical Cable, a set of adapter parts, battle goggle parts, and a stand. The appearance and functionality of each weapon have been significantly modified, allowing them to be mounted on the hangar-style display base, shoulder armor, or waist weapon-hanging rack, offering greater versatility in posing and display.
This commemorative edition's display base features a laser foil-textured "Evangelion" series 30th Anniversary LOGO, along with a completely newly sculpted "Spear of Cassius", measuring approximately 400mm in length. Transparent parts and metallic paint applications are utilized to express the light and shadow texture on the spear's surface.
