Disney's live-action "Lilo & Stitch" has been a massive hit in recent months. Originally conceived as a streaming-only title with a modest budget of around $100 million, the film recently crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office. Even before hitting that milestone, Disney had already fast-tracked a sequel into development. But who will be tasked with crafting the next chapter? Disney isn't looking far, bringing back the person who knows Stitch best — Stitch himself.

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) exclusively revealed today that Chris Sanders (pictured above), the longtime voice of Stitch and co-director of the original animated film, will return to pen the screenplay for the live-action sequel. However, he will not direct, as he is currently focused on developing the sequel to DreamWorks' "The Wild Robot."

While the first live-action film was a direct remake of the original animated movie, it remains unconfirmed whether the live-action sequel will adapt other stories from the animated canon. However, previous reports suggested the second installment would be an entirely original story, not adapting any existing animated content.
