Following the upcoming release of "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach," Hideo Kojima has shifted his creative focus to "OD," his mysterious new project in collaboration with Xbox.

The game, first unveiled at The Game Awards (TGA) in 2023, was described by Kojima as "a game I've always wanted to make." In a recent interview with Ssense, he again discussed the project's concept, style, and his perspective on public reception.
Kojima described "OD" as "something completely different," suggesting players might "love it or hate it." He appeared quite unfazed by this potential for extreme polarization. He stated he would monitor immediate social media reactions and watch future analysis videos and reviews, but added, "The true evaluation will emerge 10 or 20 years from now."

When "OD" was revealed last year, its atypical media positioning was emphasized. Kojima stated at the time, "It's a game, yes; but it's also a movie, and a new type of media never seen before." From the currently released trailers, the game features facial scans of Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier, accompanied by mysterious sounds and an eerie atmosphere, creating a truly bizarre style.
Even more notably, "Get Out" and "Nope" director Jordan Peele is involved. The acclaimed director, known for his psychological horror style, stated when he took the stage at TGA, "Kojima has always been an inspiration for my work. This collaboration is incredibly immersive and terrifying, and I am deeply honored to work with one of the greatest of all time."

The exact extent of Peele's involvement has not yet been revealed, but Kojima disclosed, "It's not just Jordan; I have other creative partners involved. They are legends, but I can't reveal them yet."
With information still largely under wraps, "OD"'s specific gameplay, structure, and release date remain a mystery. However, what is certain is that this will not be a traditional game, but one that will challenge players' definition of "immersive experience." As Kojima stated, this might be an experimental journey that will take two decades to truly comprehend.
