As "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" gears up for production, speculation is mounting regarding the potential appearance of the villain Mister Negative.
Fans have widely championed Daniel Dae Kim, known for his roles in "Lost" and "Hellboy," as the ideal candidate for the part, and the actor recently addressed the rumors for the first time.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Kim confirmed he was aware of the fan casting buzz: "I've seen those discussions over the last six or seven months, and I've seen other Asian actors being mentioned for the role. I'm honored to be mentioned, but I haven't heard anything yet."

Regarding his willingness to take on the role, he responded, "It's an interesting character. I'm always open to interesting characters and projects."
In the comics, Mister Negative, whose real name is Martin Li, is a Chinese immigrant. After enduring human trafficking and illegal experimentation in his youth, he developed a dual personality: on one side, he's a kind philanthropist who runs the F.E.A.S.T. organization, helping the underprivileged during the day; on the other, he's a crime boss who can manipulate negative energy, leading the "Inner Demons" gang and dominating New York's underworld at night.
However, given the character's distinct Chinese background and cultural elements, including his appearance and gang's origins, some debate has arisen over whether Daniel Dae Kim, as a Korean American, would be a suitable fit for the role.
Meanwhile, Stephen Oyoung, who voiced Mister Negative in the Insomniac "Spider-Man" games, has also repeatedly expressed his desire to reprise the role in a live-action adaptation. He admitted, "I haven't heard from Sony yet, and even if I did know something, I probably couldn't say. But I'm still very, very hopeful."

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"), "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" features a script penned by "No Way Home" writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
The cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Michael Mando as Scorpion, and "Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink.
The film is slated for release on July 31, 2026. Whether Mister Negative will indeed make an appearance remains to be officially revealed.
