Last October, Deadline exclusively reported that director Michael Bay, who previously collaborated with Will Smith on the first two "Bad Boys" films, was set to replace "Bullet Train" director David Leitch at the helm of Smith's upcoming Netflix action-comedy, "Fast and Loose." However, nearly a year later, Deadline has once again revealed that Bay has decided to step down from the project.

According to Deadline, Bay's departure stems from creative differences with Smith. Bay reportedly sought a more action-heavy focus for the film, while Smith preferred a stronger comedic element. Despite this exit, Bay isn't slowing down; he is reportedly in discussions with Paramount Pictures to revitalize the "Transformers" franchise, potentially marking his sixth return to direct a film in the series.

The screenplay for "Fast and Loose" has seen contributions from multiple writers, including brothers Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber, known for "The Meg" franchise, Chris Bremner, who co-wrote "Bad Boys for Life" and "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," and Eric Pearson, a co-writer on "Godzilla vs. Kong."

The film's plot centers on Smith's character, an amnesiac who wakes up in Tijuana, Mexico, and gradually uncovers that he has been leading a double life: one as a crime syndicate boss and the other as an undercover CIA agent.
