In May, Deadline reported that Millennium Media, the co-producers of "The Expendables" franchise and "First Blood" installments four and five with Sylvester Stallone, announced at the Cannes Film Market that they were developing a prequel film for the "First Blood" series, titled "John Rambo." Today, Deadline followed up with the news that 29-year-old rising star Noah Centineo has been cast to portray a young Rambo.
Centineo rose to prominence in recent years starring in romantic comedies such as the "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" trilogy and "Sierra Burgess Is a Loser." He also joined the DC universe, portraying Atom Smasher in "Black Adam."

The prequel is confirmed to be directed by Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander (pictured above), known for "Big Game" and "Sisu." The screenplay will be co-written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the writing duo behind "Black Adam." Production is slated to begin early next year in Thailand.
The film will explore young Rambo's experiences and origins during the Vietnam War. While Stallone is not currently set to return in an acting capacity or participate in any behind-the-scenes roles, it remains unclear if the script incorporates his previously conceived prequel story. However, sources indicate that Stallone was aware of the prequel plans and had been informed of Centineo's casting. The prequel's producers are open to Stallone's potential return, provided a suitable role or position emerges. Additionally, Lionsgate, which distributed the fourth and fifth installments, is expected to continue as the distributor.
