HBO's "Harry Potter" Series: First Set Photos Unveil Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Nick Frost as Hagrid

HBO's highly anticipated "Harry Potter" series recently unveiled its first official set photos, offering fans the clearest look yet at the upcoming adaptation. Dominic McLaughlin, cast as Harry Potter, made his debut appearance alongside Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, captured on the streets of London, sparking widespread discussion among fans.

Among the most striking details in the photos is the faint glimpse of Hagrid's pink umbrella peeking from beneath his coat. Fans familiar with the novels and films know this seemingly ordinary item conceals Hagrid's broken wand. Though he rarely used it after his expulsion from Hogwarts as a youth, it made several memorable appearances in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."

According to on-set observations, Harry and Hagrid were seen heading into a pub named "The Blue Maid." Speculation suggests this location serves as the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron, the pivotal gateway that leads Harry to Diagon Alley.

Notably, in addition to Frost's direct involvement, a tall body double wearing a realistic prosthetic head was also utilized during filming. This ensures Hagrid's imposing stature is convincingly portrayed in wider shots.

Chris Columbus, who directed the first two "Harry Potter" films, praised the series adaptation in an interview. He noted that the original films were constrained by runtime, forcing many plot points to be cut. He expressed excitement for the new multi-episode format, which will allow for a complete exploration of the novels' depth and detail.

Beyond the central trio – Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley – the young cast also includes Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, and Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, among others.

The adult cast features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Frost as Hagrid.

The "Harry Potter" series is slated to premiere on HBO in 2027.
