James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios and director of "Superman," recently revealed in an interview with GamesRadar+ that Warner Bros. Games is developing several new projects, including "massive DC game projects." However, he cautioned fans that it might take several years to see these initiatives come to fruition.
Gunn noted that while some smaller DC games are currently in the pipeline, he's particularly excited about larger initiatives still in early planning stages. He stated, "We're discussing some bigger things, one of which I'm particularly excited about, but it will take time. There have been a lot of personnel changes within Warner Games recently, and we're working with the new team."
These changes stem from Warner Games' restructuring over the past year, which has seen the company focus its development efforts on four key franchises: "Mortal Kombat," "Harry Potter," DC Comics, and "Game of Thrones."
This strategic shift follows the underperformance of several titles, including Rocksteady Studios' "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League," which suffered from disappointing sales, and "MultiVersus," which was shut down after failing to meet expectations. Furthermore, the "Wonder Woman" game was reportedly canceled, and Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego have all been closed.
While DC games have historically delivered acclaimed titles like the "Injustice" and "Batman: Arkham" series, recent performance declines have raised questions about the brand's competitive edge. In response, Gunn emphasized that DC Studios is now collaborating more closely with game developers. He revealed that the team gets involved early in project conceptualization, even offering guidance on story direction to ensure continuity between film and game narratives.
GamesRadar+ also reported that new "Superman" actor David Corenswet might reprise his role in future DC games.
However, Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran admitted that fans will have to wait "several more years" before getting their hands on the first DCU games. In the interim, Warner Games will continue to release other projects, including "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight," which was just announced at gamescom 2025. While its limited character roster has sparked some debate, its faithful recreation of classic scenes and combat system has garnered significant player interest.
