Sophie Turner Warns New "Harry Potter" Child Stars: "Stay Away From Social Media"

With HBO announcing a brand-new "Harry Potter" reboot series set to premiere in 2027, all eyes are naturally on the new cast members stepping into the iconic roles of the Golden Trio: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

However, amidst the fervent fan anticipation, Sophie Turner, who famously played Sansa Stark in "Game of Thrones," recently offered heartfelt advice, cautioning these young actors about the pervasive influence of social media.

In an interview with Flaunt magazine, Turner stated that she "desperately wants to give those kids a hug" and tell them, "You're going to be fine, but don't touch social media."

"Stay connected to your friends from home, stay living with your family, make sure your parents are your chaperones. It's so important to have that grounded base when you're dealing with such a huge, crazy career."

Her warning is not without merit. When "Game of Thrones" first premiered, social media platforms weren't as prevalent. However, as the show's eight-year run progressed, the rapid rise of social media commentary and fan pressure significantly impacted Turner's mental health. This experience made her acutely aware of the potential harm social media poses to child and teen actors.

Unlike the original "Harry Potter" trio—Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint—who didn't face the immense pressures of platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, or TikTok, the new cast members will contend with online reviews, public scrutiny, and even the risk of cyberbullying.

As the HBO series adaptation of "Harry Potter" garners significant anticipation, there's a collective hope that these young actors can maintain their innocence and balance beyond the spotlight. As Turner stated, "Beyond the big spectacle, the most important thing is to maintain a life that is truly your own."
