Following the premiere of its second season, HBO's hit series "The Last of Us," despite largely adhering to the storyline of the game "The Last of Us Part II," has sparked controversy over character portrayals and casting choices. Specifically, the depiction of "Ellie" and Bella Ramsey's performance have not resonated with some viewers, leading to a surge of negative reviews in later episodes.
Addressing the backlash, Ramsey recently responded to the criticism on "The Awardist" podcast, taking a direct stance. She stated that she tries to avoid online comments but offered a clear piece of advice:
"Honestly, you don't have to watch it. If you really hate it, the game is still there, and you can play it again. If you want to watch the show, then I hope you enjoy it."
Meanwhile, significant changes are underway within "The Last of Us" creative team. Game creator and series co-showrunner Neil Druckmann has announced his departure from future HBO series production to fully focus on new game projects at Naughty Dog studio.
Additionally, Halley Gross, co-writer of "The Last of Us Part II" game, will also be stepping away from the series team. This means that co-showrunner Craig Mazin will lead the creative direction for the upcoming third season solo.
While "The Last of Us" series is confirmed for at least one more season, with these core creative personnel changes, fans are particularly keen to see if the third season can maintain its acclaimed quality.
