Satoru Noda's acclaimed manga series, "Golden Kamuy," made its live-action debut last year on January 19th. The film was a massive box office hit, drawing huge crowds and earning widespread praise as a top-tier manga-to-live-action adaptation.
Today (Sept 2), the official announcement dropped: the live-action sequel is officially titled "Abashiri Prison Raid Arc" and is set to hit Japanese theaters on March 13, 2026! A teaser visual and special trailer were also unleashed alongside the news.

Set against the rugged backdrop of Hokkaido, the story plunges into a thrilling hunt for a massive, hidden Ainu gold treasure. It's a wild ride packed with survival, cunning mind games, and intense battles. Given its utterly unique world, many once thought "Golden Kamuy" was practically unadaptable for live-action.
Yet, the first live-action film, released on January 19, 2024, blew everyone away, earning universal fan acclaim and even being hailed as "one of the greatest manga-to-live-action adaptations ever." The hype continued to build in October with the TV drama sequel, "Golden Kamuy - Hokkaido Tattooed Convict Scramble Arc," further igniting the fandom.

Now, the saga is back on the big screen! The newly revealed poster shows Sugimoto and Asirpa locked in a tense standoff amidst flames, with the shadowy figure of the legendary No-Face lurking in the background, cranking up the suspense.

The special trailer gives us our first look at a slew of fan-favorite characters, including Shiraishi, Ogata, Lieutenant Tsurumi, and Toshizo Hijikata – everyone's here! Plus, get ready for a jaw-dropping scene with a massive horde of prisoners bearing down, as Sugimoto roars, "I'm Immortal Sugimoto!!"

Author Satoru Noda himself commented, "The Abashiri Prison Arc is the most crucial turning point in the 'Golden Kamuy' story. I was absolutely blown away that they recreated a 1:1 scale prison gate on set! I really wanted to make a cameo as a murdered prisoner, but unfortunately, the timing didn't work out. Such a shame!"

The production team sees a new director at the helm: Kenji Katagiri, who directed the TV drama, while Tsutomu Kuroiwa returns for the screenplay, so there's no need to worry about the quality. However, given that the previous film didn't get an overseas theatrical release, it's likely the sequel will primarily be available via streaming. If you're a fan, keep an eye out for future official announcements!
