After a long hiatus without new installments, the animal disaster franchise "Anaconda" is making a "comedic" comeback. Last year saw a Chinese remake, and now Sony Pictures is set to unleash an American reboot this Christmas season, with the first trailer and a new promotional poster (pictured below) recently unveiled.

The new American version is directed by Tom Gormican, known for "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Etten, his collaborator on "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent." Much like how "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" featured Nicolas Cage playing a fictionalized version of himself, this new "Anaconda" reboot places its protagonists in a meta-world where the original "Anaconda" films exist as real movies.

The star-studded cast includes Thandiwe Newton, Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Ben Lawson, Steve Zahn, and Daniela Melchior. The film is slated for a North American release on December 25th, Christmas Day.

This "Anaconda" is a meta-reboot, following a group of "Anaconda" film fanatics who, on a whim, venture into the jungle to remake the classic themselves. However, their filming escapade takes a dangerous turn when they encounter real anacondas, turning their amateur production into a fight for survival.
