Hideo Kojima's Horror Game "OD" Unveils First Trailer: Terrifying Atmosphere and Knocking Sounds Hint at Mysterious Story

Hideo Kojima officially unveiled the first trailer for his new game, "OD," a collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, during today's "Kojima Productions: Beyond the Strand" livestream event.

The mysterious horror game, built on Unreal Engine 5, carries the subtitle "Knock" and stars Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. It's already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated titles at this year's Tokyo Game Show (TGS 2025).

The trailer opens with Lillis's character using a red card to unlock a tightly shut red door. On-screen text hints that the story takes place a decade after a terrifying incident.

The character then enters a dimly lit room where rain streaks against the window. Inside, a wooden box filled with candles is visible, some even shaped like the "BBs" from "Death Stranding." As the candles are lit, her fear intensifies. The scene abruptly cuts as an ominous figure approaches and grabs her head, accompanied by creaking door hinges and Geiger counter-like noises.

On stage, Kojima explained that the "Knock" subtitle distinguishes the game from the "OD" film project currently underway with director Jordan Peele. He stated that while Peele would bring "another kind of fear," his own fear was "knocking." "I'm really scared of loud knocking sounds," he added, directly highlighting the eerie sound design central to the trailer.

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, emphasized that "OD"'s development is progressing smoothly, praising Kojima's innovative approach to gameplay, narrative, and player interaction.

He described it as "a bold and unique work that fully embodies the style of Kojima Productions." Spencer added, "We're not only supporting the visual presentation but also collaborating closely on the backend technology, aiming to fully deliver Kojima's vision to players worldwide."

While further game details remain under wraps, Kojima jokingly warned, "This game is truly terrifying; it might make you wet your pants."

Beyond "OD," the livestream also revealed casting and art details for the "Death Stranding" film project and the new title "Physint." With the release of the first "OD: Knock" trailer, players are eagerly anticipating the next thrilling experience from the legendary game creator.
