It's widely known among global fans that J.K. Rowling and many actors from the "Harry Potter" film series hold differing opinions on the definition of gender. Among them, Emma Watson, who famously played Hermione, is often perceived by fans as having the most strained relationship with Rowling. However, Watson recently clarified in an interview on the podcast "On Purpose With Jay Shetty" that she doesn't harbor any hatred for Rowling over their disagreements.

Watson explained that while she supports and respects the gender identity of transgender individuals—a stance contrary to Rowling's assertion that biological sex is exclusively male or female—she has no desire to damage their relationship. "I really don't feel that embracing that experience, and embracing the love, support, and position I have, means that I cannot also, and do not, cherish Joanna (Rowling's real name) and other people I have relationships with," Watson stated. "I never feel that these two things are mutually exclusive, or that my relationship with one person cannot be maintained and cherished."
Watson continued, "I just don't feel that these things are black and white. My biggest wish is that I hope people who don't agree with my views can still love me, and I also hope that I can continue to love those who don't necessarily share my opinions. I think what saddens me the most is that we haven't really sat down and talked, but I'm always willing to have a proper conversation. That's what I believe, and I completely think it's possible."
