Two weeks ago, Universal Pictures officially announced that a new film adaptation of the classic police procedural series "Miami Vice" was indeed in the works, slated for an August 6, 2027 release. Today, foreign media outlet Nexus Point News exclusively reported that Glen Powell and Michael B. Jordan are in talks to star as the two lead characters, James "Sonny" Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. This casting clearly continues the franchise's tradition of a white and Black detective pairing.

The new "Miami Vice" movie will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for "Top Gun: Maverick." Eric Warren Singer, one of the screenwriters for "Maverick," and Dan Gilroy, director of "Nightcrawler," are both involved in penning the script. The story is set to explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami, drawing primarily from the original television series' pilot episode and first season, rather than the modern-day setting of the 2006 film adaptation. Production is expected to begin next year, with filming planned using IMAX cameras.
