Zelda Williams, daughter of the late comedy legend Robin Williams and director of the film "Lisa Frankenstein," recently spoke out against fans creating AI-generated videos mimicking her father. She condemned these actions as disrespectful to the deceased and hurtful to his family.
Zelda posted on Instagram, stating, "Please stop sending me the AI 'recreations' of my dad. I don’t know why you think I want to see them, or that they’re not profoundly disturbing. I’ve seen worse, and I’ll block you and move on if you insist. But if you have any decency, please stop doing it to him, to me, and to yourselves. It’s stupid, and it’s not what he would’ve wanted."
She further criticized that AI-generated culture is eroding human creativity and dignity. Williams expressed her anger at seeing the legacy of real people reduced to "something that vaguely looks and sounds like them" just so people can make "gross puppet videos" for TikTok.
"You are not creating art; you are taking human lives, art, and the history of music and churning it into a disgusting processed hot dog, then force-feeding it to others just for a 'like.' It’s truly disgusting," Zelda asserted.
Zelda also strongly refuted the notion that "AI is the future." She stated, "AI is just a terrible recycling of the past, forcing people to repeatedly consume it. It’s like eating the excrement at the very end of a so-called 'content human centipede,' while those at the front laugh as they swallow."
This isn't her first time speaking out against AI. As early as 2023, Zelda publicly warned that AI mimicking the voices of deceased actors was "not hypothetical, but a reality," criticizing these actions for infringing upon performers who can no longer give consent. She also voiced her support for the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) in their fight against AI infringement on likeness rights.
