Even before its release, the price of "Grand Theft Auto VI" has sparked intense debate. As the gaming industry shifts from a $70 to an $80 standard, speculation is rife that Rockstar Games might make the most anticipated game in history the first major title to break the $100 price point.
Now, a design director who worked on "Saints Row" has publicly stated his support for the price, even asserting that "this game deserves it."

In an interview with Esports Insider, Chris Stockman, the original design director for "Saints Row," stated unequivocally that "Grand Theft Auto VI" is the only game that "can and should" be sold for $100.
"They're the only company that can do it, and that doesn't mean I think it's an industry trend," Stockman elaborated. "If every game followed suit, there would definitely be backlash. Not all games are created equal, but 'GTA 6' is the only title that can command that price, and I hope Rockstar Games actually does it."

Stockman emphasized that the development scale and production quality of "Grand Theft Auto VI" are "unprecedented," with even internal rumors suggesting it might have the highest game budget in history.
"The scope and production scale of this game warrant a $100 price tag, but if everyone else followed suit, it would be a disaster," he added.
In fact, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, has been repeatedly questioned about the pricing but has consistently avoided specifics, only emphasizing that "players will get more than their money's worth." Nevertheless, the industry widely expects "Grand Theft Auto VI" to break entertainment industry records and become one of the most impactful titles in history.
On the other hand, some analysts remain reserved about a "$100 era." Matthew Ball, CEO of Epyllion, previously suggested that if Rockstar priced the game at $100, it might negatively impact sales due to the high cost. He believes the gaming market's "sweet spot" remains around $70, and a highly anticipated title like "Grand Theft Auto VI" doesn't need a price increase to boost sales.

However, with rumors of Switch 2 games like "Mario Kart World" potentially costing $80, and Microsoft reportedly following suit with price increases, the era of $100 games seems less distant.
Regardless of the final price, "GTA 6" is poised to become a global phenomenon. Whether players will ultimately pay for Rockstar's ambition will only be revealed when the game officially launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on May 26, 2026.
