The third installment in the "Tron" film series, "Tron: Ares," has faced a devastating box office opening, raking in a mere $60.5 million globally in its first week. This dismal performance rings alarm bells for a major production reportedly costing nearly $200 million.
However, industry outlet Deadline recently revealed that Disney Pictures' financial losses from "Ares" are projected to be far greater than initially anticipated. According to Deadline's sources, the film's actual net production cost was $220 million. An additional $102 million was spent on marketing, with miscellaneous expenses totaling $25 million, bringing the grand total cost to a staggering $347 million.

Deadline's rough estimates suggest that "Ares" will conclude its theatrical run with approximately $160 million worldwide. After accounting for the split with global cinemas, Disney's actual share is projected to be around $72.2 million. Further revenue streams are estimated at $37.6 million from home entertainment, nearly $100 million from television broadcasts, and an additional $5 million from airline distribution, accumulating to a total revenue of $214.8 million. Despite these figures, the total revenue falls significantly short of the $347 million overall cost, ultimately leading Disney to an estimated loss of approximately $132 million.
