Now in its fourth season, HBO's acclaimed crime anthology series "True Detective" famously reinvents itself with a new cast of detectives each installment. Despite three new pairings, the one combination fans consistently clamor to see again is the original duo from Season 1: Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

While fans, McConaughey himself, and even Nic Pizzolatto—the creator behind the first three seasons—have all expressed openness to revisiting the Season 1 narrative, Harrelson remains steadfastly against it.

McConaughey has previously stated he would gladly return if the script was compelling enough. Pizzolatto also mentioned in May that he had begun to develop some ideas, waiting to see if they could successfully come to fruition. However, Harrelson, during a recent interview on "Today" while promoting his upcoming film "Now You See Me 3," offered a definitive stance: "Honestly, no, I'm never going to do it again, because the first season was so great, and I was so satisfied with how it ended. If we did another season, I think it would ruin it." Harrelson prefers to preserve the perfect conclusion of the first season, choosing to end on a high note rather than force an extension.
