HBO's "Harry Potter" Series Unveils New Hogwarts Robes, Madam Hooch Look; Sparks Fan Debate Over Show's Style Direction

HBO's highly anticipated "Harry Potter" series has once again offered a glimpse behind the scenes, revealing new set photos that provide the first look at the main characters' Hogwarts attire. These images offer insight into the show's visual direction and its departure from previous adaptations. The newly released photos showcase updated school robes, distinctly different from those in the original film series, sparking widespread discussion among fans.

In the latest set photos, young actor Dominic McLaughlin, portraying Harry Potter, is seen wearing a burgundy, cloak-style robe, a notable departure from the iconic pure black robes of the film series. This has led many fans to speculate whether the color signifies Gryffindor's house colors.

Another photo, however, features Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy wearing robes of a slightly different hue, appearing closer to Slytherin's colors. This has led to speculation that the series might use house-specific colors as a distinguishing detail for the school robes.

These photos, released by "Wizarding World Direct," appear to capture scenes from the classic first flying lesson in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," as well as Draco snatching Neville's Remembrall. This indicates the series is recreating many pivotal moments beloved by fans, while simultaneously introducing new visual interpretations.

The set photos also offered the first look at Louise Brealey, known for her role in "Sherlock," as Madam Hooch. Brealey appears in a wizard-style waterproof athletic jacket, a stark contrast to Zoë Wanamaker's dark wizard robes in the original films. This suggests the series aims to maintain the core essence of the characters while reimagining their costume styles to align with a more contemporary visual language.

The new "Harry Potter" series is slated to premiere on HBO in early 2027, with its first season comprising eight episodes.
