J.K. Rowling, the original author of the "Harry Potter" novels, recently made her inaugural visit to the set of HBO's highly anticipated reboot series, currently filming in the UK, sparking widespread interest.
Multiple sources informed Deadline that Rowling personally visited Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and various outdoor locations to review the adaptation's filming progress. Given her role as an executive producer, the visit was reportedly described as "akin to a royal inspection," with top production executives clearing their schedules specifically to greet her.
Rowling has been deeply involved in script and casting decisions since the series' initial announcement. In June 2025, she publicly lauded the first two episode scripts as "very, very, very good," also praising the creative team and emphasizing her enjoyable collaboration with showrunner Francesca Gardiner. Rowling has consistently underscored HBO's dedication to maintaining the integrity of the original novels, expressing confidence that the extended series format will enable a richer, more detailed narrative.

The series is penned by Gardiner and directed by Mark Mylod, known for his work on "Succession." Filming has reportedly been underway for several months, with the ambitious project set to adapt all seven novels across multiple seasons, positioning it as a major flagship production for Warner Bros. and HBO.
