Rupert Grint Pens Heartfelt Letter to New 'Ron' Actor; Admits He'll Never Escape Character's Shadow, Anticipates HBO's 'Harry Potter' Rebirth

Rupert Grint recently revealed in a BBC interview that he wrote a personal letter to Alastair Stout, the child actor cast as "Ron Weasley" in the upcoming HBO "Harry Potter" series, before filming officially commenced. This gesture has been widely described as a symbolic "passing of the torch" for the wizarding world.

Grint admitted that seeing the new generation of the "Golden Trio" officially form brought a mix of strange emotions and excitement. He mentioned writing to Stout before filming to wish him well, hoping he would enjoy entering the magical world as much as Grint did years ago.

"I kind of see it as a passing of the baton, just wishing him all the best," Grint said. "I had a really good time in that world, and I hope he does too." He added that seeing a new version unfold felt like "the magic cycle being reborn."

He also joked that the new Ron indeed shares "a bit of a family resemblance" with him. However, Grint believes the new "Harry Potter" series should not be constrained by the previous films but should instead become a work entirely for a new generation.

Notably, Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry, also wrote a letter of well wishes to the new child actor, Dominic McLaughlin, and even received a "very sweet reply" in return. Radcliffe stated that he didn't want to be a source of pressure for the new actors, but simply hoped they would "have more fun than he did."

Regarding the series reboot, Grint confessed that he would probably never truly escape the character of "Ron." "But I'm totally fine with that," he said. "I love meeting fans who say 'Harry Potter' was their childhood. This work holds deep meaning for many generations, and I'm proud to have been a part of it."

As early as 2023, Grint had publicly expressed his desire to see "Harry Potter" adapted into a TV series and welcomed new actors taking over, predicting at the time that the film version would "someday be remade."

Now, as the wizarding world prepares to welcome a new generation of adventures, the original trio is safeguarding the new actors' journey in a different way.
