The "Wicked" film series, adapted from the beloved classic musical, is proving to be a box office juggernaut. The first installment grossed over $750 million worldwide, and the recently released second chapter debuted last week with a record-breaking $226 million opening weekend, marking the highest-ever premiere for a Broadway musical adaptation. With such enthusiastic audience reception, the likelihood of future spin-off projects is high, and Universal Pictures' Chief Marketing Officer, Michael Moses, recently revealed to Vulture that preliminary plans are indeed in motion.

Moses stated that given the immense success of "Wicked" and its vast fan community, they feel a responsibility to explore ways to expand the universe. While they haven't found all the answers yet, development is already underway.
Beyond Moses' comments, Stephen Schwartz, the original musical's composer, recently shared his own thoughts on potential spin-offs with The Ankler. Schwartz noted that while he felt Glinda and Elphaba's story was complete, there were other narrative avenues to explore, pointing to original "Wicked" novelist Gregory Maguire's multiple sequels. He added that he and Winnie Holzman, the musical's playwright, were discussing a different concept, not a direct sequel, but rather a spin-off.
