Tatsuki Fujimoto, the mastermind behind "Chainsaw Man," saw his acclaimed one-shot manga, "Look Back," hit the big screen last June as an animated film in Japan. It was a massive hit, even racking up impressive box office numbers and critical praise in Taiwan, proving that less than an hour of runtime can still totally capture hearts.
And now for the even bigger news! Today (12/2), it was officially announced that "Look Back" is getting the live-action treatment! While we've only got two teaser visuals so far and the director confirmed as Hirokazu Kore-eda, the cast list is still under wraps. Mark your calendars, though, because it's slated for a 2026 release.

The official website is already live, showcasing those two tantalizing teaser visuals. One depicts Fujino and Kyomoto walking through a snowy landscape, while the other captures them drawing manga in a room.
Taking the helm is none other than the celebrated director Hirokazu Kore-eda, known for his powerful works like "Nobody Knows," "Air Doll," "After the Storm," and the recent "Monster." Kore-eda's films are practically a staple at international film festival competitions, so it's safe to say this live-action adaptation is likely headed for similar prestigious circuits.
Kore-eda shared that he stumbled upon the manga in a bookstore, drawn in by the "back view" on the cover, and devoured it in one sitting. His initial reaction? "Tatsuki Fujimoto probably had to draw this work to move forward; that feeling was so painful it resonated." He also noted that for him, "Nobody Knows" held a similar significance.

While the cast remains a mystery, the production team details have been revealed. Given Kore-eda's incredible talent, expectations are high for this live-action "Look Back." Plus, it's confirmed for an international release, including Korea and Taiwan! We'll be eagerly awaiting more official announcements and, of course, that much-anticipated cast reveal.
