The art of the “Itasha” is nothing new to many anime, comic, and gaming fans. By painting or applying decals of their favorite characters to a beloved vehicle, fans can transform anything from a motorcycle to a car into their own rolling creation.
But have you ever wondered, can a car Cosplay too? A recent post on Japan’s X showed the wonderfully bizarre sight of a car transformed into Evangelion Unit-01, complete with the Spear of Longinus mounted on top. The photos quickly drew attention—and even prompted the owner to step forward and share more about the “Evangelion Unit-01 Cosplay Honda Civic.”

The car was shared on X by a friend of its owner, kazu, who was blown away by the build and could hardly believe a vehicle could be transformed like this.

The post and its photos immediately caught the internet’s attention, prompting kazu himself to join the conversation.
Kazu bought the Honda Civic e:HEV more than two years ago and later painted the body himself, using deep metallic purple and fluorescent green to recreate Evangelion Unit-01’s signature color scheme.

He then added fluorescent green accents to the side mirrors and door handles, while the decorations beside the headlights were designed to resemble Unit-01’s eyes.

But that still was not enough. Using board materials commonly used for Cosplay props, he built the Spear of Longinus and Unit-01’s horn, which can be attached while the car is parked.

Once everything is mounted, this is the result.

The cracked-glass effect, meanwhile, was created with a 3D printer.

The wildly creative build earned plenty of praise online, with fans impressed by the idea of making a car itself part of the Cosplay. It obviously cannot be driven on public roads with the full setup attached, but as a display piece, it delivers serious visual impact.
Car enthusiasts clearly know how to give their rides a fandom-powered makeover. Between the money, craftsmanship, and imagination poured into transforming the Civic into something its owner truly loves, this build puts anime fandom on full display.
