While production on "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," the "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" sequel/spinoff with David Fincher taking over directing duties from Quentin Tarantino, has been underway for some time, plans for Leonardo DiCaprio to return for a cameo have never materialized. Media reports have long suggested DiCaprio was unwilling to commit, even with high offers, leaving Brad Pitt to return as the sole lead.

DiCaprio, currently on the awards circuit for his latest film, was recently asked by Deadline about his absence from "The Adventures of Cliff Booth." He responded that while there had been several discussions about him returning, and he was very much looking forward to Cliff Booth's story, he would not be participating in the film. He stated that he believed David Fincher was the best person to direct, noting that Quentin was a fan of Fincher's work, as was he, and that no one was better suited to carry on Quentin's vision for the story. DiCaprio concluded by saying that he saw this as the next stage in Cliff Booth's life and was excited to see the finished product.
Additionally, DiCaprio confirmed rumors of his involvement in a "Heat" sequel. As for his role, DiCaprio remained tight-lipped, only stating that discussions were ongoing.
