Deadline exclusively reported today that Sony Pictures has enlisted Chris Bremner, the screenwriter behind "Bad Boys" parts three and four, to pen the script for the fifth "Men In Black" film. However, this installment is unlikely to be a direct sequel to the 2019 entry, "Men in Black: International." Once Bremner completes the script, Sony plans to send it to Will Smith, one of the stars of the original trilogy, hoping he will return to reprise his iconic role as Agent J.

It's widely known that "Men in Black: International," which starred Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, suffered from poor critical reception and significantly lower box office returns. Bremner, a key figure in revitalizing Smith's other successful franchise, "Bad Boys," is now tasked with a similar mission. Sony undoubtedly has high hopes that he and Smith can together restore "Men In Black" to its former glory.

Smith is not yet officially involved in the development of the fifth film; he will make his decision on participation after reading the script. Interestingly, Smith had previously stated before the release of the third film that it would be his last; a reversal of that declaration now seems highly probable. As for Tommy Lee Jones, who famously played Agent K, Deadline did not mention whether he is also being considered for a return.
