Celebrating its 30th TV anime anniversary, Neon Genesis Evangelion remains a colossal hit, a bona fide classic, and for many, one of the most legendary anime of all time.
To mark this epic milestone, the official team dropped a bombshell today (12/18): a brand-new short anime is in the works and will premiere as part of a special commemorative project! Fans can catch it from February 21-23 during the "EVANGELION:30+; 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION" event.

This 13-minute short, crafted specifically for the event, boasts a dream team: Hideaki Anno is handling the planning, script, and overall supervision, while Naoyuki Asano, who served as animation director on the "Rebuild of Evangelion" films, is stepping up as director.
Long-time series veterans Kazuya Tsurumaki, Shinji Higuchi, and Ikki Todoroki are also on board as supervisors. Beyond this stellar lineup, everything else about the short is under wraps, set for an exclusive, global premiere *only* at the event.
The "EVANGELION:30+; 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION" event itself is the grand finale of the anniversary celebrations—a massive, three-day festival held at Yokohama Arena, a first in the series' history!
This exclusive short will screen just once a day during the event on a colossal 18-meter wide by 15-meter tall LED screen inside the venue. Fans with a "STAGE AREA" ticket (which grants all-day access to stage programs) or an "ALL AREA Pass" (for both "STAGE AREA" and "EVA EXTRA 30") can watch the short at no extra charge. (For full details, check out the official event website!)

Naturally, fans are hyped about a brand-new short anime for the 30th anniversary! But since it's currently event-exclusive, we'll have to wait and see if it gets a wider release later. What new surprises will Hideaki Anno cook up this time? We're on the edge of our seats!
