Three years ago, the horror-comedy "M3GAN" became a breakout hit, costing only $12 million to produce but grossing over $181 million worldwide. This massive success prompted producers Blumhouse and distributor Universal Pictures to quickly greenlight a sequel, "M3GAN 2.0," and a spin-off, "Soulm8te." However, the highly anticipated "M3GAN 2.0" significantly underperformed at the box office, taking in only $39.1 million. This disappointing result has now cast a shadow over the planned spin-off, "Soulm8te."

According to an exclusive report from Deadline today, "Soulm8te" has been pulled from its previously scheduled January 9 release date. Universal Pictures is reportedly no longer handling distribution for the film, with producers now actively seeking a new home. "Soulm8te" tells the story of a man who, grappling with the loss of his wife, purchases an AI robot. His attempt to evolve the robot into a truly sentient companion inadvertently unleashes a deadly soulmate. The film is said to be inspired by the popular erotic thrillers of the 1990s.
