Hideaki Sorachi, the mastermind behind the hit manga series "Gintama," recently had fans roaring with laughter after revealing a harrowing, yet hilarious, battle with kidney stones. The creator shared his excruciating experience at a Jump Festa stage event in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, describing how the pain was so intense he even saw "flashbacks" – a moment that quickly became a hot topic among fans.

The event saw the main voice cast of the "Gintama" anime – Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki), Daisuke Sakaguchi (Shinpachi), and Rie Kugimiya (Kagura) – gather on stage. Following tradition, Kugimiya read a letter penned by Sorachi himself.
In his letter, Sorachi kicked things off with a self-deprecating jab, playfully twisting the title of a hypothetical new movie, "Gintama The Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames," into a crude joke related to his recent ailment. He then got down to business, sharing his kidney stone ordeal: "Instead of the 'Flames Arc,' I'd call it the 'Inflammation Arc,' because I got kidney stones a few days ago!"

Sorachi vividly described kidney stones as one of the "three great pains," a torment so severe it caused a parade of images to flash through his mind. The star of this bizarre mental cinema? None other than his beloved voice actor, Kenjiro Tsuda, appearing in various scenarios: overworked, obsessed with dueling, and even wandering the streets in a soba shop paper apron. This quintessentially "Gintama"-esque narrative had both the audience and the voice actors in stitches.
Beyond the personal anecdote, the event also served as a promotional platform for a new, remade film adaptation of the popular "Yoshiwara in Flames Arc."
This upcoming movie plunges Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura into the dark depths of Yoshiwara, an underground red-light district ruled by the formidable "Night King" Hosen. From the creator's painful yet hilarious confession to the announcement of new cinematic adventures, "Gintama" once again proved its unique blend of humor and enduring vitality.
