Two months ago, Universal Pictures officially announced a fourth installment in the Brendan Fraser-led "The Mummy" franchise, with Fraser and original female lead Rachel Weisz confirmed to return. However, less widely known is that another, lower-budget fourth iteration of "The Mummy" was already in production before Fraser's return was finalized. Recent reports suggest some troubling news regarding this fourth version.

This fourth "Mummy" iteration was initially also titled "The Mummy" but has since been renamed "The Resurrected." Lee Cronin, known for directing "Evil Dead Rise," is attached as both writer and director.

According to an exclusive report from Feature First, "The Resurrected" held internal test screenings recently, ahead of its rumored April 17 release. However, reactions were reportedly far from ideal, with attendees largely giving negative feedback. Even producer James Wan, director of "The Conjuring," allegedly walked out midway through the screening.

Attendees described "The Resurrected" as featuring a significantly more extreme level of gore than previous "Mummy" films. Sources characterized the film as "more disgusting" than "The Substance" or "Bring Her Back." One scene reportedly involves a scorpion crawling into someone's mouth, severing their vocal cords, followed by another character inserting a finger into the victim's throat to press the vocal cords, temporarily restoring their ability to speak.

Combining past and recent intelligence, the plot synopsis for "The Resurrected" is as follows: Eight years ago, journalist Charlie's daughter, Katie, vanished in the desert after being cursed by a mysterious woman. Eight years later, a plane carrying a sarcophagus crashes, and upon opening the coffin, an adult Katie is found inside. However, Katie is no longer herself; Charlie discovers his daughter is possessed by the soul of an ancient Egyptian mummy. As this malevolent spirit begins to spread to his other child, Charlie must perform a deadly ritual to save them, even if it means transforming himself into a monster.
