Directed and written by Lee Cronin, known for "Evil Dead Rise," the fourth cinematic iteration of "The Mummy" franchise recently faced rumors of poor internal test screening reactions. Despite this, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures has swiftly launched its promotional campaign, unexpectedly dropping the first trailer and a new teaser poster (pictured below).

Interestingly, earlier rumors suggested this new "The Mummy" film would be retitled "The Resurrected," moving away from the long-standing "The Mummy" moniker. However, official promotional materials released today confirm the title remains "The Mummy."

Synopsis: Eight years ago, journalist Charlie's daughter, Katie, vanished without a trace in the desert after being cursed by a mysterious woman. Now, a plane carrying a sarcophagus crashes, and when the coffin is opened, an adult Katie is found inside. But Katie is no longer herself. Charlie discovers that his daughter's body hosts the soul of an ancient Egyptian mummy, and as this malevolent spirit begins to spread to his other child, Charlie must undertake a deadly ritual to save them—even if it means transforming into a monster himself.

This marks the fourth iteration of "The Mummy" franchise, following the original 1932 film, Brendan Fraser's 1999 version, and Tom Cruise's 2017 reboot. This latest installment departs from the high-budget commercial action style of the Fraser and Cruise films, instead returning to the low-budget horror roots of the 1932 original.

The cast features Irish actor Jack Reynor, known for "Transformers: Age of Extinction," as protagonist Charlie, alongside May Calamawy, who starred in the Marvel series "Moon Knight." The film is slated for a North American release on April 17.
