In 2024, Deadline exclusively reported that Disney and Lucasfilm had signed "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" director Simon Kinberg to write and produce a new "Star Wars" trilogy, envisioned as Episodes X through XII of the main saga. Over a year has passed since that announcement with little further news, until new whispers emerged yesterday.

Renowned film journalist Daniel Richtman recently reported on his Patreon page that Daisy Ridley, who portrayed Rey in the sequel trilogy, is not only set to return for her own untitled sequel film but will also have a significant role in the new trilogy spearheaded by Kinberg. Richtman emphasized, however, that Rey will not be the primary protagonist of this new trilogy; that role will be filled by other new characters. Like Rey's solo follow-up, the release dates, general plot outlines, and even the director for this trilogy remain unconfirmed.
