Last September, Deadline reported that the rights to the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise were up for sale, with A24 emerging as a strong contender to outbid other studios. Months later, A24 has now confirmed its acquisition of the rights and is immediately moving forward with a new film and a brand-new series.

As rumored last year, director JT Mollner ("Strange Darling") and Glen Powell were already developing a new story even before the bidding concluded. This narrative is now the basis for the series currently in development.

Mollner will co-produce the series with Powell and will also direct episodes. However, for the new film, only Powell will serve as a producer, with Mollner having no involvement.

In a statement released earlier, Mollner admitted that he had previously expressed disinterest in remaking perfect films, considering the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" to be one such masterpiece. However, when the opportunity arose, he chose to embrace it, not as a remake, but rather as a fresh perspective on the story and a tribute to the classic. Texas-born Powell stated that the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" IP has always been an iconic representation of his home state, and he was honored to embark on a new chapter for the franchise alongside such a top-tier team.
