God of War Trilogy Remake Confirmed; Spin-off "God of War: Sons of Sparta" Launches Today on PS5

Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE) concluded its latest State of Play presentation with two major "God of War" announcements: confirming a "God of War" trilogy remake is in development and, as a surprise, launching the side-scrolling action spin-off "God of War: Sons of Sparta" today on PlayStation 5.

T.C. Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos, appeared during the presentation to personally confirm the news, leading to widespread speculation about his involvement in the new project. The original "God of War" debuted on PS2 in 2005, followed by its sequel in 2007, and "God of War III" on PS3 in 2010. While no release date has been announced for the trilogy remake, officials stated it is still in early development, with only a logo revealed during the presentation; further details are expected at a later time.

Meanwhile, "Sons of Sparta," which launched today, was developed by independent retro game studio Mega Cat Studios and is priced at $29.99.

The game features 2D action-platformer gameplay, with a story set during Kratos's youth, depicting his training years alongside his brother Deimos. The narrative was penned by SIE Santa Monica Studio and is narrated from the perspective of an adult Kratos, emphasizing its place within the official "God of War" timeline.
