Two years ago, Warner Bros. Discovery began developing a live-action series based on the classic "Scooby-Doo" IP. After two years in preparation, they have finally secured their first cast member: Mckenna Grace, who is set to portray Daphne. Interestingly, this isn't Grace's first encounter with the character; six years prior, she voiced a young Daphne in the animated film "Scoob!".

The series will be written and showrun by Josh Appelbaum, co-writer of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise, and Scott Rosenberg, co-writer of the "Jumanji" franchise. Frank Welker, the longtime voice actor for Scooby-Doo, is also slated to return to voice the titular canine.

The live-action "Scooby-Doo" series will delve into the origin story of how the Mystery Inc. team first met and collaborated on their initial case. As summer camp draws to a close, Shaggy and Daphne find themselves entangled in an unforgettable mystery centered around a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy — a potential witness to a supernatural murder. They join forces with the pragmatic and scientifically-minded Velma, and the quirky yet handsome new kid in town, Fred, to unravel the enigma. However, the case pulls each of them into a chilling nightmare, threatening to expose all their secrets. The first season will consist of eight episodes, produced by Warner Bros. Television, and is slated for release on Netflix.
