Lee Cronin, the director and writer behind "Evil Dead Rise," has reportedly helmed the latest cinematic iteration of "The Mummy" franchise. This new film, referred to in Chinese as "《墓乃伊》," unexpectedly dropped its second trailer and a new promotional poster (pictured below) in the early hours today.

Synopsis: Eight years ago, journalist Charlie's daughter, Katie, vanished without a trace after being cursed by a mysterious woman in the desert. Now, a plane carrying a sarcophagus crashes, and when the coffin is opened, an adult Katie is found inside. But Katie is no longer herself. Charlie discovers that his daughter's body hosts the soul of an ancient Egyptian mummy. As this malevolent spirit spreads to his other child, Charlie is forced to perform a deadly ritual to save them, even if it means transforming into a monster himself.

This film marks the latest, third reboot of "The Mummy" franchise, following the original 1932 version, Brendan Fraser's 1999 iteration, and the 2017 Tom Cruise-led film. This new version reportedly eschews the high-budget commercial action blockbuster style of the Fraser and Cruise films, instead returning to the low-budget horror roots of the 1932 original.

The cast features Irish actor Jack Reynor, known for "Transformers: Age of Extinction," and May Calamawy, the female lead from Marvel's "Moon Knight." Reynor portrays the protagonist, Charlie. The film is slated for an April 17 theatrical release in North America.
