The official "Detective Conan" 30th-anniversary anime exhibition kicked off today (Feb 19) with a star-studded opening ceremony, featuring singer Mai Kuraki, voice actors Minami Takayama and Kappei Yamaguchi, and creator Gosho Aoyama himself.
During the event, some fun behind-the-scenes recording stories were shared. What really got the crowd laughing was when Minami Takayama and Kappei Yamaguchi dropped a bombshell – a "fact" even Gosho Aoyama himself didn't know! His reaction? "I had no idea! I've been duped!" which sent the audience into hysterics.

When asked about their most memorable scenes, Takayama recalled, "After shrinking, with the lights shining down, that very first 'Eh?' I uttered was truly unforgettable."

The conversation then shifted to the fact that Conan and Shinichi Kudo are the same person, and whether Takayama (Conan's VA) and Yamaguchi (Shinichi's VA) had any special considerations for their portrayals. Yamaguchi explained, "After all, Conan is the protagonist of 'Detective Conan.' I've worked with Takayama since my debut, so when voicing Shinichi, I always try to subtly infuse a bit of Conan's essence."

But then, Takayama dropped a bombshell: "Actually, back when the TV anime first started, episodes 1 and 2 were recorded in reverse order!" She explained that they did this to better grasp Conan's voice and personality after he shrunk, so they recorded the parts with the shrunken Conan first, and then Episode 1.

Hearing this insider info, Aoyama-sensei let out a surprised "Eh?!" before chuckling, "I didn't even know that! I've been kept in the dark!" The revelation of a production secret even the original creator wasn't privy to absolutely cracked up the audience. Aoyama also addressed fans at the event, saying, "I'm still cooking up lots of exciting storylines, and the mysteries will unravel one by one. Please look forward to it!"

The "Detective Conan" 30th Anniversary Anime Exhibition runs from February 20 to March 29 at Tokyo Dome City Prism Hall. The venue features multiple zones, showcasing the anime's production process from coloring and character animation to final completion, alongside a classic scenes area and exhibition-exclusive special videos.
