For years, the "Game of Thrones" franchise has been consistently rumored for a big-screen adaptation, with news of a potential film surfacing periodically. Just two months ago, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned in an interview with author George R.R. Martin that a spin-off centered on King Aegon Targaryen might eventually be released as a feature film.

Today, gossip outlet Page Six revealed that Beau Willimon, known for his work as showrunner on "House of Cards" and co-writer on the "Star Wars" series "Andor," has been hired by Warner Bros. Pictures to pen a "Game of Thrones" movie script. Willimon has reportedly already completed and submitted the initial draft.
Sources indicate that Warner Bros. Discovery executives are highly pleased with Willimon's screenplay. The story indeed focuses on King Aegon I, as previously hinted by The Hollywood Reporter, chronicling his brutal and bloody conquest to establish the Targaryen dynasty and unite six of the Seven Kingdoms, 300 years before the events of the original "Game of Thrones" series.
