Reki Kawahara, the mastermind behind hits like "Sword Art Online" and "Accel World," dropped his latest light novel, "Demons' Crest" (デモンズ・クレスト), back in 2022. And late last year, fans got the exciting news that it was getting a TV anime adaptation!
Today, it's officially confirmed that the anime will hit screens sometime in 2026 – exact dates are still TBD! But that's not all: a teaser PV, key visual, and the main cast and staff have also been unveiled.

The "Demons' Crest" (デモンズ・クレスト) light novel first launched in November 2022 via KADOKAWA. Since then, it's also spawned a manga adaptation with story concepts by Shika Takano and art by TOmoe.
The story plunges into a quarantined space where "reality" has fused with the world's first full-dive VRMMO-RPG, "Actual Magic." Our protagonist, Yuma Ashihara, was just happily testing the game with his classmates. But as chaos erupts and Yuma struggles to grasp what's happening, he's confronted by his beautiful classmate, Sumika Watamaki. Her appearance, however, has undergone a tragic transformation. She looks exactly like one of the game's "monsters"... "—This is a game, and it's also reality."

This anime adaptation is being helmed by none other than Production I.G, with Shinji Ushiro, who directed "Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro 2nd Attack," taking on the role of Chief Director. Kenichiro Komaya is directing, Eiji Umehara is handling series composition, and Yukiko Horiguchi is on character design.
As for the voice cast, Haruka Shiraishi is confirmed to voice the protagonist, Yuma Ashihara, while his twin sister, Saha Ashihara, will be voiced by Konomi Inagaki.

Original author Reki Kawahara also shared his thoughts:
"Death games, MMORPGs, enclosed spaces, virtual worlds, friendship and rivalry, hope and despair, clashes of ideas, conflicts of emotion—'Demons' Crest' is absolutely packed with everything I love. Weaving all these elements into a cohesive story was no easy feat, but after a very long preparation period, we can finally share this news with everyone. This anime is a work brought to life by the hard work of many staff members and voice actors, and I believe it will make you feel both thrilled and chilled. I hope everyone will dive into this world with Yuma and Saha and stick with it until the very end!"

This marks the third light novel by Reki Kawahara to get an anime adaptation. And hey, while some of his past works still have unresolved plotlines (we're looking at you, SAO!), this production pace definitely shows the anime team has full confidence in his new series!
No exact premiere date has been announced yet, only that it will air sometime in 2026. Stay tuned for official updates!
