Last year, the fourth installment of "The Mummy" franchise made headlines with the surprise announcement of Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser's return. Today, another fan-favorite character is set to reunite with the cast. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that John Hannah, who played Weisz's brother Jonathan in the first three films, is confirmed to reprise his role. THR also noted that production is slated to begin this fall in London, UK, and Morocco.

"The Mummy 4" will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking duo behind "Scream" (2022) and "Scream VI." David Coggeshall, co-writer of the "Scream" television series, is penning the script. The fourth film is scheduled for release on May 19, 2028. Interestingly, the announcement of Hannah's return coincides with the North American re-release of "The Mummy Returns," celebrating its 25th anniversary — a move likely orchestrated by Universal Pictures as a promotional strategy.
