The Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCG) is absolutely blowing up, with players worldwide — from Japan to Europe and the Americas — jumping into the fray. Whether it's new booster pack releases or major tournaments, the scene is buzzing, and card prices are soaring. It's truly a titan in the card game world.
On the 16th, 26-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Will Klein from Major League Baseball (MLB) flexed his love for Pokémon by showing off a custom "Tyranitar Pokémon card" pitcher's glove. This unique "ita-bag" style glove immediately caught fans' attention – who knew we'd see such a combo on the baseball diamond?
Will Klein had a breakout performance in last year's World Series Game 3 against the Toronto Blue Jays. With the game in extra innings and the bullpen depleted, Klein, who had barely pitched in the regular season, was called up to the World Series roster. He was thrust into action in the top of the 15th inning, throwing 72 pitches over four innings, striking out five batters, and holding the line until his teammates scored. He became the Dodgers' unsung MVP of that game.
Klein's "Tyranitar Pokémon card" glove was a custom design created after a manufacturer reached out to him. Beyond the unique color scheme and his name embroidered on it, the real showstopper is the transparent card window built into the glove's web. This "ita-bag" inspired feature allows Klein to proudly display his favorite Pokémon, Tyranitar.
Klein also shared that he first got into Pokémon when he was six years old, back in elementary school. He remembers playing "Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen" non-stop, spending countless hours immersed in the game during his childhood.
When asked about his top three favorite Pokémon, he named Tyranitar (of course!), Nidoking, Flygon, and Swampert. Looks like we've got a fan of Sandstorm-themed Pokémon on our hands!
It's definitely awesome to see a player flaunt their favorite Pokémon on an MLB field. Who knows, maybe we'll see even more athletes showcasing their passions in similar ways down the line!
