Japan's official Mobile Suit Gundam Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, announced that the latest limited-edition product from the Gundam peripheral project 'Gunpla-kun', the "1/1 Gunpla-kun DX Set [PAINTING MODEL]", will be available for sale at various stores starting May 02, 2026.
The protagonists of 'Gunpla-kun' are the Gunpla models produced at BANDAI's Shizuoka factory. One early morning, a mysterious light suddenly emanated from the production line, and unknown Gunpla runner frames were born from it. These include the most famous Mobile Suits from the Mobile Suit Gundam series, such as the RX-78-2 Gundam and MS-06 Zaku II, all featuring a unique two-head-tall cartoon style. Through their adorable designs and stories, they convey the joy of building Gunpla models.
The "1/1 Gunpla-kun DX Set [PAINTING MODEL]" is a modification of the previously released standard kit, with the parts' molding color replaced by a canvas-like gray-white, allowing players to freely express their creativity through painting.
Aside from the color and packaging design, the other contents are essentially the same as the standard version. Once assembled, the Gunpla-kun main body stands approximately 84mm tall, faithfully reproducing the adorable two-head-tall proportion characteristic of the anime. In addition to familiar armaments such as the beam rifle, beam saber, and shield, along with a dedicated display stand, it also includes a set of "plastic runner parts." These allow the Gunpla-kun body to be disassembled and attached to the plastic frame, recreating its charming plastic runner form from the series.
