The Hollywood Reporter (THR) exclusively revealed today that Electronic Arts' popular first-person shooter franchise, "Battlefield," is developing a live-action film adaptation. Christopher McQuarrie, known for writing and directing "Mission: Impossible" installments 5, 6, 7, and 8, is confirmed to pen the script and direct.
Acclaimed actor Michael B. Jordan will also serve as a producer and is expected to star in the film. While the live-action project is still seeking a distributor, discussions have begun with various studios, with a preference for those committed to a theatrical release.

Notably, this project marks one of McQuarrie's rare ventures in nearly 12 years without Tom Cruise in a starring role. Since their initial meeting during the production of "Valkyrie," McQuarrie has become a pivotal creative partner for Cruise on the vast majority of his recent films. Even for projects McQuarrie didn't direct—including the 2017 reboot of "The Mummy" and "Edge of Tomorrow"—Cruise frequently brought him in for scriptwriting and revisions, underscoring their exceptionally close professional bond.
